Monkeys are an EYFS class and are taught by Janice Dalton supported by teaching assistants Carol Foster, Emily Withington and Maria Saunders
In Monkeys class, children follow the EYFS curriculum which is play-based and includes time for exploration and discovery (your child will talk about this as 'free learning') interspersed with regular teaching inputs throughout the day. This first year at school is a time when children make great strides in their social and emotional development, learn how to be part of a class and how to relate to adults and other children in school.
Every week children bring home their Learning Journal with a special homework task to be completed, often something to investigate. We begin teaching phonics right from the start of the year and parents support this learning by practising sounds, key-words and sharing books and stories every day.
At the end of the year teachers assess each child against the Early Years Profile and report on whether children are emerging, expected or exceeding in each area of the curriculum.
