Monkeys

Monkeys are an EYFS class and are taught by Amber Money supported by teaching assistant Carol Foster.

In Monkeys class, children follow the EYFS curriculum which is play-based and includes time for exploration and discovery (your child will talk about this as 'free learning') interspersed with regular teaching inputs throughout the day. This first year at school is a time when children make great strides in their social and emotional development, learn how to be part of a class and how to relate to adults and other children in school.

We begin teaching phonics right from the start of the year and parents can support this learning by practising sounds, key-words and sharing books and stories every day. Children in Monkeys class also have a Homework Book with a special homework task to be completed with their parents, often something to investigate or to make.

At the end of the year teachers assess each child against the Early Years Profile and report on whether children are emerging, expected or exceeding in each area of the curriculum.
